What a delta day really costs

Every trip on this site is priced on request, per person, for your date and your party. This page shows why, what other operators publish for the same routes, what a day trip is made of, and how a cheaper quote for what looks like the same day is usually put together.

Why the trips say On request

A join-in price depends on the departure you join: the same route can run with a car one day and a coach the next, and some departures only go ahead with a minimum number of travellers. A private price depends almost entirely on how many of you there are, because the vehicle, the guide and the boats cost the same whether they carry two people or six. Weekends, public holidays and the weeks around Lunar New Year move both.

A single figure on the page would be wrong for most dates and most parties. So we quote per person, in writing, for the date and party you send, and the quote names what is included line by line.

What other operators publish

To help you place any quote, ours included, here are prices other companies in Ho Chi Minh City publish for the same kinds of day. They are their prices, not ours, read on 11 October 2026; they change without notice and include different things.

Route and typePublished priceBasisNotes from the listing
My Tho–Ben Tre, join-inVND 499,000per adultDeparts 08:30; bus, minivan or car; children 2 to under 6 pay 75%
My Tho–Ben Tre, shared minivanfrom USD 48 (VND 1,190,000)per adultMinimum 2; travel insurance included
Cai Be, join-inVND 699,000per adultDeparts 07:00; runs with at least 6
Ben Tre–Can Tho–Cai Rang, 2 days, join-inVND 2,190,000per adult, twin shareDeparts 07:30; runs with at least 6; Cai Rang boat 06:30–07:00
My Tho–Ben Tre, privateUSD 170 (car or minivan); USD 290 (limousine)per adult08:00 hotel pick-up in Districts 1, 3, 4
Mekong day, private with guideUSD 330per group, up to 8Lunch not included

Read the right-hand column before comparing the middle one. A low join-in price with a bus full of people and a fixed lunch is a different product from a shared minivan with a minimum of two, and a private price per adult is a different calculation from a private price per group.

What a day trip is made of

A quote you can compare is one you can take apart. These are the pieces of every trip on this site, with published prices on the ground where they exist:

ItemHow it is chargedPublished reference
Vehicle and driverPer vehicle per day; larger for more peopleNot published by the trade; it is the largest single cost of a private day
GuidePer guide per dayNot published by the trade
Thoi Son boats from My ThoPer seat on shared boats, or per boatShared VND 20,000–30,000 per person; private VND 300,000–350,000 per boat (2021–2023 figures)
Cai Rang boat from Ninh KieuPer boat or per seat, depending on the boat2-hour basic boat VND 200,000–300,000; 3 hours with breakfast VND 300,000–400,000 (2026 guide, which does not say whether per boat or per person)
Hotel in central Can ThoPer room per nightAbout VND 500,000–800,000 (2023 figure)
Entry feesPer personBinh Thuy ancient house VND 15,000 (2023)
LunchPer personSet menus at riverside restaurants; not published

These references are ranges from travel guides, not official tariffs. We show them so you can see that boats and entry fees are a small part of a day trip; the vehicle, the guide and the time are most of it.

What moves the price, in order

  1. Join-in or private. The biggest single choice. Join-in splits the vehicle, guide and boats across everyone on board.
  2. Party size on a private trip. Two people pay for a whole car and a whole guide; six people share the same guide and a minivan. Per-person prices fall steeply from two to four.
  3. The route. Cai Be is about 37 km further than My Tho each way; Can Tho adds a hotel night and a second day of vehicle and guide.
  4. The date. Weekends, public holidays and the Lunar New Year period cost more and take longer on the road.
  5. The hotel in Can Tho. On the two-day trip, the room is the second-largest item after the vehicle.
  6. Pick-up outside the central wards. Extra driving time on a private trip; a meeting point on join-in days.

What is not included, and why

  • Tips. They go to the people who earned them, and you decide how much. A small tip for the boat crew is customary; one guide suggests VND 20,000–50,000 for a boat driver at Cai Rang.
  • Drinks beyond water. Tastes and amounts vary too much to price fairly in advance.
  • Travel insurance. You are better covered by a policy you choose for the whole journey than by a day policy bundled into a tour.
  • Shopping. The workshops sell what they make. Buying is optional, and the guide will not press you.

How a cheaper quote is usually made

When two quotes for what looks like the same day differ by a quarter or more, the cheaper one is usually built in one of these ways. None of them is dishonest in itself; they are simply different days.

  • A coach that collects from many hotels across the city, so the day starts an hour later than the time on the ticket
  • Shared boats with a large group instead of boats for a small group, and a shorter sampan stretch
  • A guide who stays with the vehicle while the boat crew show you round
  • Shopping stops where the operator earns commission, added to fill the afternoon
  • On the two-day trip, a hotel named only by star rating, and the Cai Rang boat at 07:00 instead of 05:30
  • Two destinations squeezed into one day, such as the Cu Chi tunnels and the delta, with short stops at each

Ask any operator, including us, which of these apply. A quote that answers in writing is one you can trust.

Common questions

Questions travellers ask most

Why are your prices higher than some I have seen?

Sometimes they are, and sometimes the cheaper day is the right one for you. The difference is usually group size, how far the coach collects, how long the boats are, and whether shopping stops pay for part of the day. Our quote lists each of these, so you can compare like with like.

Do children pay less?

Yes. We quote a child price for your date. For reference, one join-in operator in the city charges 75% of the adult price for children aged 2 to under 6.

Which currency do you quote in?

US dollars per person. If you prefer Vietnamese dong, ask in the form.

Is the price per person or per group?

Per person on every trip. On a private trip it is built per vehicle and divided by the party, which is why it changes when someone joins or drops out.
